In this solo work, women are depicted as carriers of ritual who navigate inner and outer worlds as they invoke a sense of reverence, of unfolding mystery, of imagination. A stellar Carnatic musical ensemble accompanies Aparna Ramaswamy as she explores the spontaneous interplay between music and movement and the dynamic contours created by the artists onstage. Ragamala Dance brings contemporary interpretations of Bharatanatyam, the classical dance form of southern India. "We draw from myth and spirituality of our heritage to make dance landscapes that dwell in opposition - to find the transcendence that lies in between. Together we craft every moment to create intricate and complex worlds that convey a sense of reverence, of unfolding mystery, of universal celebration."
