Visiting Artist, Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cello - Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 7:30 pm in Light Recital Hall. He performs Not so Alone – Music for Cello and some virtual partners. The idea of creating musical polyphony, a fabric of multiple musical lines, for a monophonic instrument has intrigued composers for centuries. If Bach created the illusion of accompaniment with fast lines that blur the roles of foreground and background, some contemporary composers have gone ever further, adding electronic and video counterpoint to a one man work. Cellist Pablo Mahave-Veglia will explore works for cello solo, some of them Not So Alone with the aid of whatever gear fits into his van! The program includes: Simple Lines for eight cellos by Bill Ryan, Dualidad para Uno by Edgardo Cantón and a film by Pedro Ayala, Gallery by Robert Muczynski, Cello Counterpoint for eight cellos by Steve Reich, and Stream for violin and cello, by Bill Ryan with Lina Bahn, violinist on film.
