Description
The Progressive Era in Wisconsin in the early 20th century resulted in a number of major political reforms: factory conditions in the state were made safer, one of the first workers’ compensation programs in the nation was instituted, a state income tax was established, primary elections were put in the hands of voters rather than party bosses, and Wisconsin’s state parks system was founded. This lecture provides a review of the Progressive Movement in Wisconsin. Attention is also given to how the current politics of the state have shifted from this important historical time period.
Presented by Jonah Ralston, Associate Professor, Politics, Government, and LawImages
