262-472-1003 Exploring Special Education and Adult Outcomes of Students with Disabilities through an Intersectional Lens This lecture will discuss special education systems and processes during the transition to adulthood for students with disabilities, connecting adult outcomes to K-12 schooling experiences. In particular, a study examining the experiences of Black young adults labeled with intellectual disability will be discussed. This work highlights how racism and ableism can operate within special education systems to limit student opportunities and potential. We will conclude by reflecting together on the affordances of special education and how to promote educational equity in ways that foster quality of life into adulthood.
